Time management deals with self-discipline and how to prioritize and complete everyday tasks/activities.
The time target is a useful tool to use in personal and professional settings because it supports individual time mastery by providing specific techniques and activities to gain control of time. Many organizations use the time target to maximize potential, eliminate distractions, chaos, and confusion from doing last-minute activities, and ultimately increase productivity as well as focus on important tasks in order to get results and revenue.
The time target is divided into four (4) different areas and it is important to examine and understand these areas as well as pay keen attention to how time is invested when achieving a set goal and getting a return.
Sometimes, we find ourselves in the Distractions area, where we are distracted from our goals by activities around us and within our organization.
For instance, this can occur when we engage with colleagues on something that is not urgent and not important at the moment and acts as a distraction from completing specific tasks.
In the Delusions area, we often find ourselves doing work that is not extremely important but still needs to get done. For instance, we may choose to focus on doing minor tasks simply to show that we are being productive in contrast to completing major tasks that will require longer hours and more work.
By doing this, we begin to delay doing those major important tasks. Therefore, we can find ourselves in the Demand area when crunch time comes. This means we begin rushing against the clock to complete tasks that are urgent and important, and this could lead to burnout and eventually further procrastination.
So, where do we really want to find ourselves? We want to find ourselves In the Zone, and this is where we are being proactive while engaged in completing tasks that are not urgent but important. This way, we can look at things we need to do in advance, plan properly and be able to execute our tasks in a timely manner.
